Firecore have a new release of the aTV addin for the Apple TV. So far the biggest difficulty seems to be the need to jailbreak the Apple TV and currently to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 you have to have the Apple TV  tethered to a Mac so making it not really ready for prime time yet. There is a standalone solution on the way but for now its a more complicated procedure.

Beta 2 adds some now features including supporting the latest version of the Apple TV OS:

Installer & Maintenance

  • Added Windows compatible installer (requires Windows XP or later)
  • Improved error handling during installation (no more mysterious password prompts)
  • Improved version checking for app downloads
  • Minor bug fixes

Couch Surfer

  • Added optimized navigation when using the standard Apple remote
  • Added search and url suggestion engine
  • Added user-agent toggle setting
  • Many additional improvements

Last.fm

  • Added streaming support for Australia, Canada, Germany, and New Zealand
  • Improved Last.fm scrobbling
  • Many additional improvements

I am going to be giving this build a miss until and wait until the standalone jailbreak is released and then it will be worth trying but you can give it a go if you have already purchased the original version of aTV. More details on Firecore’s blog
