zune4_4 One of the first issues I had with the new Zune 4.0 software is that I could not sign in and therefore could not go to the marketplace or use the social side of the software. I have never been able to purchase tracks from the marketplace but I have used the Podcast store and the social features so I was disappointed it would not sign in

So here is my tip to enable you to sign in (you still need a US based Zune account, I created a Hotmail account for that role)

Go to Start and type Region in the search box and select Region and Language, then change the location to United States. You don’t have to switch the keyboards or date formats over. I found Windows needed a restart for the Zune software to see the changes and once I did I could sign in

It seems a bit short sited to lock it down so much, if you have a US account why lock it down because you physical location?

  1. Dont spose you’ve tried creating a new user, with a different profile country and using that account to do a runas on the software? I’ve personaly not tried it (although I will shortly) but should work.

  2. Yup, just tested it, seems to work just fine.

Create a new user (Zune) and set a password
Open Regedit, and pop along to HKU\s-xx-xx-xx\Control Panel\International and make sure the LocaleName is en-US and sCountry is United States

Pop along to CMD and Runas /user:Zune “C:\Program Files\Zune\Zune.exe” and press enter type in the password, and up pops Zune, login and be merry.

You can obviously script it all up if your happy with it working. Or just create a shortcut that does the runas.

    Hope that helps someone.
