Derek has just posted this weeks edition of The Custom Integrator Show, this week looking to answer the question "How do you know if your network implementation is ready to turn over to your client?"

We talked a lot in the previous installments about the bandwidth requirements for different formats and compression levels of video.  Although very important, there is more to network performance than just streaming high definition videos around.  First of all, almost all streaming communications from within Windows Media Center is based on User Datagram Protocol (UDP), which is a "non-reliability check" level of communications optimized for getting the packets out there without retries and much of the usual overhead associated with IP-level communications.  This helps decrease the bandwidth requirements required for an equivalent Transport Control Protocol (TCP) transfer.
