When I was recording my Windows 7 HomeGroup video I noticed that only part of my recorded TV library was showing up on the other computers in the Homegroup and I thought it was a bug. Having spent some time on it I now know its not a bug but a setup issue. My TouchSmart (my main recording machine) is setup as a dual boot system and the Windows 7 partition had a handful of test recordings in its Recorded TV folder so I added the Vista partition content in Media Center’s library options. When viewing the content from another computer in the Homegroup only the recordings from the Windows 7 partition showed up and this is because by default only the Windows 7 Recorded TV folder is shared to the Homegroup and adding additional storage locations in Media Center does not automatically share them with the HomeGroup.

So to share the additional folder you need to browse for the folder in Explorer and then right click on it and select Share With Homegroup, then the content from that folder will show up in Media Center on the other PCs

  1. I will say the homegroup stuff isn’t as easy as they’ve intended it to be. I’ve received emails from a few users who are having trouble. I am as well. I’m going to be reinstalling my main system today and I hope that I can figure it out. Hopefully by the time the RC comes out it’ll be working properly.
