Over on the low power computing blog is a little story about the Ion platform (the one that brings together an Intel Atom and a GeForce GPU).  There are some seriously impressive benchmarks for the Ion.  1080p playback, with only 30W total power consumption.  That’s pretty amazing stuff!

So it brings me to something I’ve been thinking for a while.  How much does your system use?  All you need to check it out is cheap little power monitor, like this one from Maplins in the UK.  My custom home server, which is a very old Athlon XP 2100+ with IDE drives (!) uses about 140w during boot, 102 at idle and get this 4.6 kWh when it’s actually turned off!

So how much power is your kit consuming, let us know in the comments!
