With Windows 8 Microsoft killed off the start up sound (see why in this video) but during the development phase Microsoft did actually come up with new start up sounds which Jensen Harris reveals in his brilliant new video. Fans of Windows history will be interested by the video which plays the sound and explains the development behind it.

Also in the video is the never heard of before Microsoft Surface start-up sound that was commissioned for the Surface launch, which was intended to by unique to the Surface range. As Microsoft killed off the start up sound the special Surface sounds where never heard until now. In the video Jenson and sound designer Matthew Bennett explain the through process that created the sound.

It’s a fascinating video and I wish the start-up sound had been retained. Checkout the video and finally listen to the special start up sounds of Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface.
