Today was Microsoft’s keynote at the big gaming show E3 and as well as announcing backwards compatibility of Xbox 360 games for the Xbox One Microsoft have also switched on streaming of the Xbox One to a Windows 10 PC.

You start streaming by loading up the Xbox app in Windows 10 and from the Connect section you can click on the stream button. The app warns you if you don’t have an Xbox One controller connected to your PC but you can continue anyway. Once connected you see exactly what is on your Xbox One so you can launch any of the apps and games.

I tried it Forza Horizon 2 streaming to a 8 inch Encore 8 tablet which worked really well. You can’t use your Xbox up for anything else while you are streaming but that is fine with me. Game streaming works well sound comes through the PC as well and games are perfectly playable while it is connected. I did get a lot of disconnections while playing but it works and I didn’t even have to connect my Xbox One controller to the PC, I left it connected to the Xbox One. You need to be on the Xbox One Preview program for it to work and you need the latest version of the Xbox app for Windows 10 Insider Preview.
