Returning to the show this week is Microsoft’s Mark Pendergrast talking about the inclusion of Windows Media Center into Windows Embedded Standard 7. Mark was involved with Windows Media Center and Windows Home server projects and he explains why Microsoft decided to include Media Center in Windows Embedded and what we may see OEMS do with the platform.

I was surprised to hear Mark mention that he would like to see this built-in to TVs How does MC Embedded not add at minimum $300-400 to each TV when it comes to components and licensing? They recently announced a partnership with Intel/Broadcom to support Silverlight on SoC (system on chip). I would have thought they would opt to deliver a new extender platform based on Silverlight that optionally could tie into Media Center. If they did it this way, I could see MC Embedded used for a “gateway” type of device. Microsoft needs to continue its work on Extenders.
