On the Engineering Windows 7 blog they have a detailed post on Media Streaming in Windows 7. The post talks about HomeGroup (one of my favourite features of windows 7) and the Play To features of Windows Media Player. It takes you step by step through getting setup with network streaming including streaming to Windows Media Center extender sessions. The other feature it talks about is getting Internet Access to your home media (which wasn’t available in the beta).

There are some nice screen shots and diagrams explain the settings and the various DNLA roles. Another great resource for this kind of stuff is Simon May’s blog where he has been covering Play To for a while

There is an interesting table showing the decoders in Windows 7 and its limitations:

Table of media format support.
