Another blow for the online services of Windows Media Center. Mike at Missing Remote is reporting that MSN Remote Record Beta has been shut down (not that I ever got to test it as it was US only) but I know lots of enthusiast loved it. So the only way to setup recordings over the Internet is via webguide and that has got an uncertain future since the developer Doug Berrett now works at Microsoft and that the TV feature pack is not compatible with webguide.

So along with the disappearing applications in Online Spotlight, MSN for TV that never got out of beta Media Center’s and not to mention the Internet TV feature that is not supported outside of the US the internet future for Media Center looks gloomy at the moment. Let’s hope Microsoft have something up there selves for the future

  1. This bothers me but…could it be that MS is pulling people off of maintaining this stuff because their expertise is needed for Windows 7 to make sure all of it works with no problems????

Doubt it, but I can dream, can’t I?

  2. This is very annoying! However, I wonder if these features from MSN Remote and/or WebGuide will be included with Windows 7??

  3. Just use LogMeIn (great on the iPhone) and control your TV PC over the web. I use a USB tv dongle plus suitable tv recording software. They nearly all include EPGs.
