Doug Knox (Microsoft MVP) has very kindly shared this tool he has developed for sharing Recorded TV between Media Center PCs

It has not been tested on Vista and is not supported in any way, but Doug would like your feedback to feedback@dougknox.com

MCE 2005 - Share Recorded TV
Copyright 2006 - Doug Knox

One of the most requested features is the ability to share Recorded TV between Media Center PC's, and be able to view it in the Media Center Interface.  Now, you can share Recorded TV content between Media Center 2005 PC's.   Simply download MCE 2005 - Share Recorded TV.zip and run the installer.    You can then launch the program from the desktop or start menu.

Usage:

Sharing your Recorded TV Content with other Media Center PC's.

1) Run MCE 2005 - Share Recorded TV
2) On the Share Recorded TV tab, check "Allow other Media Center PC's to access your Recorded TV Content.
3) In the top list box, add any of the Shared folders that are listed.  If a folder is not shared, it will not be available for access.
4) Save the changes and reboot.

Accessing Recorded TV on other Media Center PC's.

1) Run the MCE 2005 - Share Recorded TV utility on the destination machine, first, and enable access (as above).
2) Run the utility on your local Media Center PC and add the local or network share folders that contain Recorded TV content.
3) Save your changes and reboot.

See the README.TXT file for limitations and known issues.

This software is unsupported.  However, comments regarding this utility, and your experience with it, can be sent to feedback@dougknox.com.  Use the subject "Share Recorded TV".

Good news and bad. This version (I had tried previous version) finally got recorded TV shows to appear on my other MCE 2005 system. Nice! Bad news is that I can't play anything. When I click play on my second MCE box, I see the first frame and then the video just stops immediately. No audio either. This second MCE system has no TV tuner, I did build it up myself, so I'm thinking perhaps I need some sort of decoder? Anyone know? Second, EHSHELL.EXE (e.g. the MCE GUI) crashes 100% of the time when I am now scrolling through the Recorded TV listing on this second MCE box. This seems like it would affect everyone. Anyone else see it? Thx, Wisdom
