 Media Center

A Worked Example

Today I'm starting a series of blog posts - we are going to work together to build a Media Center application.

The best way to learn a new technology is DOING something with it. So we are going to make a very simple trivia game in the Media Center Markup Language together, across several stages.

To start with, we are going to base our code on the open source MCMLookalike. It contains a basic layout, basic installer and a set of libraries we can use for some of our components. I've made a few name changes, and blanked out a few files so we can start from scratch and show everything from the very first step.

So if you are planning on following along from the very start, you may want to download 'Stage 0' below.

NOTE: While the Media Center community are currently working on ways around it, currently the 'debug' settings will need to be changed when you download each example.

I develop my software in the "D:\Development\mce apps" directory on my PC. If you want to be able to use MCMLPad to debug your programs, you will need to go to the 'Project' menu, choose 'TriviaCenter Properties', choose the 'Debug' tab and edit the 'Command Line Properties' to change the path from "D:\Development\Mce Apps" to a suitable directory on your computer.
