Microsoft has announced a change to the build channels for Windows Insiders. Microsoft are introducing a new Canary Channel for Windows Insiders that is going to be used for testing platform changes and other features some of which may not ship for some time (if at all). The builds may be more frequent, they may be unstable and how no documentation.
The Dev channel will be for testing new features that are not necessarily linked to a specific release. The beta channel will be for testing out the features before they ship to normal users.
With this change the build numbers are going to split:
Canary Channel: 25000 series.
Dev Channel: 23000 series.
Beta Channel: 22000 series.
Release Preview: Released versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Devices currently on the Dev channel (with 25000+) will be moved to the Canary Channel. As you can’t go to a lower build number you will have to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 if you want to switch to a lower channel.
Hopefully, this means we are going to be able to test more Windows features in the future!
