Korg recently released an upgrade to the Korg Modwave, and in this video I show you how to upgrade it to the latest version. My Korg Modwave shipped with version 1.0.3 and the latest version from Korg is 1.1.3, there are few steps you have to take to perform the upgrade.

Step 1- Switch to NCM networking mode

For Windows 10, Windows 11 and Mac OS you must switch the USB Network setting on the Modwave to NCM from RNDIS. So, to do this press Utility on the Modwave and press the Page+ button to go to the USB Network setting and make sure it’s set on NCM (use the Value button to switch between NCM and RNDIS). If you are using Windows 8 you will need to use RNDIS.

Once you have the Modwave set to NCM start the synth for the setting change to be applied.

Step 2 – Install and run the upgrade tool

Download the upgrade tool from this Korg link.

Next run the installation on Windows and then run the update tool. It will scan for the Modwave and once it finds it you have the upgrade button. Hit Upgrade to start off the procedure.

The Modwave will show the upgrade process and once complete it restarts and you are ready to go.

If you want to check what version of the Modwave firmware you have installed go to Utility and press Page – until you get to the About page. At the time of writing the current version was released 8/12/2022 and is version 1.1.3.
