Microsoft Surface Studio firmware update adds Dynamic Refresh Rates

Microsoft has released a firmware update for the Surface Laptop Studio. The update adds the ability to enable Dynamic Refresh rates on the device meaning the device can dynamically switch between 60hz and 120hz modes. 120hz gives you a smoother display but takes slightly more battery than 60hz so dynamic should give you improved battery life. Dynamic refresh is only available on Windows 11 but that shouldn’t be an issue as the Studio ships with Windows 11.

The other changes are improved touch and improved performance with the Surface Dock and Pen.

The following update is available for Surface Laptop Studio devices running Windows 10 October 2020 Update, Version 20H2, or greater.

This update:

Improves system graphics stability and enables Dynamic Refresh rate for Windows 11.

Improves touch experience

Improves performance and stability of Surface Dock and Pen.
