Plex have launched a new set of family/parental controls for Plex server that gives you fine grained controls over your media. You can now create users for each of your family members and then use content ratings to restrict access. So I can stop my kids from watching my 80’s Miami Vice box set (not that they would want to!) and I can filter out their NOW albums from my music collection. It does warn you that DLNA playback will be disabled as that would bypass the content restrictions.

The users don’t have to have full Plex accounts, you can create managed users and there is fast user switching with PIN numbers making it really easy to use. Another nice touch is that if one user of Plex Home has Plex Pass the other uses of the system will get access to the supported apps.

To use the new features you need the latest version of Plex Media Server (0.9.11.4) and Plex Home Theater, Roku and the web apps are Plex Home ready.
