MSN apps on Windows

Microsoft have rebranded and updated the Windows and Windows Phone Bing apps with a return to the MSN brand. The Sport, Travel, Food & Drink, Health & Fitness, News and Weather Windows Phone apps are now branded as MSN apps and have been updated and on Windows 8.1 the Finance, News, Heath and Fitness, Sport and Food & Drink apps have been rebranded.

The Health & Fitness and Weather apps on WIndows Phone have been updated and they have lock screen notification, if you a Lumia 1520, 630 or 635 it will show steps taken on the lock screen. I noticed that the steps taken today from the phone now show up in the Windows 8.1 Heath app.

Microsoft are also going to release a set of MSN apps for Android and iOS. The Microsoft blog has the details:

The new MSN is completely built from the ground up on Azure to provide massive, cost-effective scale (with more than 30,000 Azure cores for serving and 100 Terabytes of storage), reliability, and ongoing agility for a cloud-first, mobile-first world. Every single line of code was re-written to ensure that you have one consistent experience regardless of whether you are accessing your stocks in MSN Money, your favorite sports teams in MSN Sports, or your recipe collections in MSN Food & Drink. All of those experiences will always be with you across your devices.

The new MSN provides a global, comprehensive perspective from thousands of worldwide, authoritative sources across 11 categories. It’s simple to personalize what you want to see based on your interests. In the coming months, we will release a suite of MSN apps across iOS and Android to complement today’s release of the Windows and Windows Phone apps. You only need to set your favorites once, and your preferences will be connected across MSN, Cortana, Bing and other Microsoft experiences.
