Yesterday Microsoft released an update for the Windows Phone Calendar app which crashed whenever you tried to create or edit an appointment. Creating events is kind of a fundamental feature of calendar app so Microsoft had to get the update out pretty quickly. Fortunately Microsoft have fixed the app with a new build released this morning.
How such an error can get through the testing process I am not sure but at least it is fixed now. You should see the updated app in the Windows Store.
