Amazon have updated the Kindle app for Windows 8 and Windows RT. This update adds a 2 column reading view on ARM devices like the Microsoft Surface and has improved page turning performance, increased book storage, disabling of device dimming when reading and other performance updates.

Amazon say that an internet connection is needed to complete the updating of the app once you have installed the update. The app is free from the Windows Store

Please note: After upgrading, an Internet connection is needed to complete the app update when opening the app for the first time.
