After seeing the HP Slate being shown off by Steve Ballmer at CES in January it’s great to know a ship date at last. The device is essentially a netbook with a capacitive and active digitiser packaged in a slick slate form factor. The slate is aimed at business and  so is not directly the Windows competitor to the iPad people where hoping for. I can see HP having some limited success with the PC in business and it will do a solid job for Windows users, priced at $799 and coming with a cradle its not bad value for money but  I think I would rather have a lightweight Windows notebook for working on and the iPad for consuming content.

The slate is expected to ship November 13th and HP’s product specs can be found here
