A new build of Open Media Library beta is available, 0.4 comes in server and client versions, here are some of the features (thanks to David Shultz for the details)

The Server includes all client functionality so if your only going with one machine then server is what you need

Client offers the ability to install only the media center plugin on multiple machines that will all share the same server.  Client also allows you to install our Database Editor application on any other machine you want.

Note:  The server runs MS SQL 2008, any machine that supports running this can run the OML Server.  The OML Database Editor can be run on any machine that will run the .net framework 3.5 sp1 or higher (this includes windows xp)

Lots and lots of changes, here is a very short list:

  • Customizable entry points in Media Center
  • TV Metadata support
  • Folder heirarchy for better organization of media
  • SQL backend – better support for multi computer installations
  • Granular install options – can install the editor/server on WHS, XP, etc.
  • Improvement in the performance of metadata lookups
  • Custom filters in the UI
  • Improved search and filtering

That is just a small list of benefits, check out our user manual (pdf) for all the details and how to use them.
