Yesterday there was an update out for Windows Home Server and I am seeing reports of people having problems installing the update. In the comments for the update blog post Kevin said he had a problem with Windows Home Server console icon going to red after installing KB957825 and WHS says that the console needs updating which it can’t do as its already got the patch on. Also in the Windows Home Server forums there are reports that the connector is not upgrading

I will be trying mine today but I know Richard Miller installed the update without any issues. Are you having any problems with the update?

  1. I had problems after the update on 2 different home servers. The problem that i know I am having has to do with an error starting a service (dll) and then a reference to a specific GUID for that object. I will give you more details when I am done doing real work 🙂

  2. After it installed and rebooted – one of my three drives was not accessible (which caused issues updating the connector software on my other computers, and kept the backup service from running.)
A second reboot cured it – but for a while it was interesting times.

  3. UPDATE:

    OK, I fixed my problem.

Ok. So I moved my connector software back to “\\servername\software\
home server connector software” and un installed/re-installed the update. I then reinstalled the connectors by running setup.exe from the connectors software folder and everything works fine.

    \\servername\Software\Home Server Connector Software
Noted that WHSConnector.MSI now has a date of 31/10/2008… previously I believe that the date was 10/07/2008
Ran WHSConnectorInstall.exe and let it finish the install… succesfully got to the console.
Ran the tray icon it came back green this time..

  4. I can no longer get my backups to work – getting an event id 770 on the Vista client (after 47% ?) and the server ‘dies’ and needs to be manually restrated. I am backing up 2 dreives. If I back upo a single drive, the backup is marked as successful but the server still dies. I have another Vista client with a single drive. The backup there dies to with the same symptons but it is also not complete.

I ran the connector trobleshooter and it says there is a difference in the connector software. I have tried numerous removes/installs of both the client connector and the WHS patch with no success.

I am thinking of doing a WHS reinstall but don’t think thiswill fix the problem ,…
