I know there are a lot of upset Media Center enthusiasts at the moment with the confirmation that the feature pack is going to be OEM only. Ed Bott as ever has a balanced view on the subject,  his opinion seems to be that Microsoft were stuck between releasing a buggy product or cutting features (like H.264 support). Personally I think Microsoft should have planned to release it to consumers from day one and took the pain that entails but Ed notes that the vast array of enthusiasts setups means that this was to risky

  1. They could have released features individually. DVB-T interactive would fill an enormous gap in the UK, especially with the Olympic coverage being minimal without the red button.
