I met with FUZE Media Systems at CES back in January and they will be on the show in a couple weeks. Today they added Blu-Ray capabilities to their whole home media systems. They are partnering with ArcSoft to provide the Blu-ray support and Arcsoft seems to be doing good stuff with Blu-ray at the moment

FUZE Media Systems Partners with ArcSoft

Hardened Whole-Home Media System Now Available with Industry-Leading Blu-Ray

San Jose, Calif., May 20, 2008 – FUZE Media Systems, makers of the industry’s most hardened whole-home media system, today announced that it has partnered with ArcSoft for Blu-Ray playback.  Following the company’s recent OEM software announcement, ArcSoft is the first announced software partner that will be leveraged in both FUZE Media Systems and OEM partner media devices.

Adding Blu-Ray disc playback is the latest in feature enhancements for the appliance-like media system that delivers whole-home live & recorded TV, traditional DVDs, home movies, digital photos, and music.  The selection of ArcSoft highlights that organization’s software leadership in Blu-Ray playback.

“FUZE has come to represent the vanguard in whole-home media,” said Bob Silver, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at FUZE.  “In the past year, we have continued to enhance our whole-home media solution to make it even more desirable, and this partnership with ArcSoft is a logical next step for us.  Arcsoft has proven its Blu-Ray leadership, and our partnership has enabled us to rapidly implement for our dealer network and our OEM partners.”

Michael Downs, VP of Marketing & Business Development at ArcSoft, added, “This is an exciting announcement for us.  FUZE has delivered an entirely different sort of media system to market—one that is simplified, robust, and delivers a performance that functions more like an appliance than a computer.  This is a powerful force for the industry, and we are confident that ArcSoft’s Blu-Ray software will play a key role in improving whole-home media distribution moving forward.”

Both companies noted that the Blu-Ray capability has been implemented and is immediately available for sale.

  1. Sorry to be so divisive as Ian is normally brilliant and on the right track, but I am really am sick of hearing about Blue-Ray and DVD’s. Who cares? I mean netflix has a black box, solid state streaming solution, Media Center has many download solutions plus IPTV, Tivo has a streaming solution, Disney and the content providers are opening portals directly to the internet and Circuit City is about to get gobbled up my BlockBuster (YEAH!!! Smartest merger in the WORLD!!!!) and MSN has more HDTV streamers than any other Portal. “For Get About Sony and their proprietary, bull crap, old school players and trashy UI interface and useless software! Who cares about Blue Ray! Stop perpetuating content mongering on old media… What next… We start buying ANALOG video players with tubes? Or better yet get old school projectors on film COME ON… Stop playing this game… move on!

  2. Blu-Ray and DVD are good for bootable OS, backup and ripping content. That’s about it… Who the heck wants to listen to them whirl and or break down (which they are sure to do) over time. They scratch, break, get lost, are stolen, etc… Just load content on your hard drive… come on people. talk more about downloading and managing content. let’s talk about content management, a good content taxonomy and meta data vs. DVD and Blu-Ray… I mean really, little plastic and aluminum disks are just wasting fossil fuels and natural resources. Kladiescape has a much better story to tell here. Egad! A closed system, non pc based “solution” does better content management than a PC system like Fuze. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? Concentrate on SOLUTIONS and USAGE SCENARIOS not little shinny plasitc things that spin. Stop the DVD/Blu-Ray madness unless for content playback. This disks should be used for some distribution and backup and recovery! Content on DVD/Blu-Ray adds NO VALUE AT ALL! Ugh this makes me Looney tunes 🙂

  3. As much as I write about Blu-ray I really want HD downloads for Media Center, Zune and Xbox 360

  4. I haven’t done one of these for a while, so here is a round up of recent post on my blog. How do you…
