Microsoft have announced that they are to allow third-party app stores into the Microsoft Store on Windows. Providers like Amazon and Epic games can bring their stores to Windows 11, Amazon’s store will be used to bring Android apps to Windows 11 when the feature ships.

Microsoft have also changed the policies for 3rd party browsers so today Opera and Yandex Browser are now available in the Microsoft Store on Windows 11.

Along with changes to the policies announced in June apps like Zoom, VLC and Visual Studio Code are available in the Microsoft Store. This should make the store a lot more interesting than it has in previous years, whether Microsoft can get people to use the store to get apps like Zoom rather than downloading directly from the providers web site remains to be seen.
