4 Tips on Traveling With Your E-Cigs

After dreaming about it for seemingly forever and saving up for even longer, you are finally ready to start packing for your dream vacation. Maybe you are flying across the country to visit friends and family or heading to another country to check out the culture and the food.

If you, like many other people, enjoy e-cigs, you should do some pre-trip homework to see if and how you can bring along your fave vape devices. The last thing you want is for someone in airport security to confiscate your brand new e-cig device, or for a hotel to fine you because you vaped in the room without realizing it was against the rules.

With this in mind, please consider the following tips for traveling with your e-cigs and vapes.

1: Be Sure Vaping Is Legal Where You Are Going

If your upcoming adventure involves traveling overseas, please be sure that your vape pen and/or e-cig will be as welcome as you in the country. As Lonely Planet notes, a number of countries have pretty strict laws regarding vaping; these include Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and parts of India. Argentina, Brazil and Egypt are also countries with fairly strict e-cig bans and laws.

2: Batteries Are Okay, but Disposable Vapes Are Even Easier

Since most vapes include batteries, you might wonder if the staff at the airline counter will fuss over any batteries that you have in your checked or carry-on luggage. Fortunately, Alaska Airlines says the small lithium-ion batteries that are used in small consumer electronics like vapes are okay to have in both your carry-on and checked baggage. If you are concerned about having to pack extra batteries and/or are not interested in fussing with recharging batteries on your trip, you can always bring along disposable vapes. For instance, blu sells a single-use disposable vape that comes assembled and is ready to go with no charging necessary. After a long day of travel and/or sightseeing, it may be nice to have a vape pen ready to use with no fuss or work on your part.

3: Where to Pack Your Devices

According to the TSA website, it is okay to pack your e-cigs and vapes in your carry-on bags, but not your checked luggage. While you will not be allowed to vape on the flight, you can carry your battery-powered e-cigs, atomizers, vape pens and related paraphernalia either in your carry-on bag, a purse or backpack or on your person. The TSA is also super strict about the amount of liquid you can bring on-board — the max per container is 3.4 ounces or 100 ml, and they have to be packed in a see-through quart-sized bag. If you prefer the liquidpods for your vape, you should be in luck as they are typically 1.5 ml or so, but be sure to check the size of your e-cig and vape liquid prior to packing.

4: Be Careful in the Hotel

If you are in a non-smoking room, you may assume that it’s okay to vape or use an e-cig because they create vapor and not smoke. Please be aware that depending on what type of smoke detector you have in your room, your vaping could still set it off. Plus, you don’t want to break the rules of the hotel and have to pay a hefty fine for vaping, even if you are certain it will be okay. As a general rule of thumb, ask the hotel staff when you are checking in if it’s permissible to vape or use e-cigs in your room and abide by their rules.

Have a Wonderful Time

You deserve to have a great and relaxing time on your much-needed vacation. And by taking these four tips to heart and being sure that your vaping and e-cigs are properly packed and allowed where you are going, you won’t have to worry about being charged any fees or fines — you can simply concentrate on having a wonderful time.
