The Windows 10 May 2019 Update introduced a lot of new features for Windows Mixed Realty and an updated start menu but there is a major issue causing problems display issues.

The problem causes the display to be blurry when using Windows Mixed Reality and there isn’t currently a workaround or fix. The good news is that Microsoft have a fix, the bad news is its going to take a couple of weeks for it to work through Windows Update. Somehow the bug got through the testing procedure and the Insider program. I think it seems to cause more issues for the higher resolution headsets like the new HP Reverb than it does on headsets like my Lenovo Explorer.

Here are the details from Microsoft:

A number of users have reported issues with blurriness after upgrading to Windows 1903. Unfortunately we didn’t see this in insider flighting and in our private testing.

We have investigated and the underlying issue here is part of the Windows release, and not contained in the WMR for SteamVR package. We’ve tracked down the issue and have a fix ready, and are working on getting it released as a Windows update. Doing this means it takes a few weeks as Windows updates ship on a regular schedule.

If you have already updated to 1903, please know that we are actively looking into workarounds to address the issues here.

If you haven’t updated to 1903 just yet, you may want to wait for this to be fixed.
