Microsoft Band and Heath Dashboard to be shut down at the end of May

It is the end of the road for the Microsoft Band as Microsoft are closing down the Microsoft Health Dashboard at the end of May. On Friday I received an email from Microsoft informing me of the closure. The Microsoft Band apps are being removed from the Microsoft Store, Google Play store and Apple app store. You can export your before 31/05/2019 via the Microsoft Health dashboard and the band will still work, but you will only be able to use it for basic tasks and you won’t be able to setup the band on a new device.

Eligibility for a refund

Certain Band users will be eligible to receive a refund according to the below terms. Eligible users are users that either:

Have a Band that is covered under its Limited Warranty; OR

Are Active Users. An Active User is defined as a user who has worn the Band on their wrist and completed a data sync from the Band to the Health Dashboard between 12/1/2018 and 3/1/2019.

All eligible users will receive an email with refund instructions. Refunds will be processed for the following amounts:

Band 1: $79.99

Band 2: $175

Refunds must be claimed by 8/30/2019.

It’s a sad end to a very promising Microsoft consumer product, I can’t help but feel that Microsoft had a potentially winning product on the their hands but they never seems to have the motivation to push it through.
