One of the great new features coming to Windows Mixed Reality with the next update Windows 10 is integration with SteamVR. Currently StreamVR operates separately to Windows Mixed Reality so to launch a game like Beat Saber while wearing a Windows Mixed Reality headset you have to use the desktop which is a jarring experience.
With the beta version of SteamVR and the latest Windows Insider fast ring builds (currently 17735) SteamVR apps and games are integrated into directly into WMR. All SteamVR games and apps show up on the start menu and you can pin them to your home environment.
In this video I show how the integration works and how you can enable the beta version of SteamVR. If you don’t want to use the Windows Insider test builds of Windows 10 then you can wait for the new features to coming in the next couple of months, when Microsoft release Redstone 5 to the general public.
