Video: How to control your Christmas lights with Amazon Alexa

Christmas lights controlled by Amazon AlexaIn this video I am going to look at how you can control your Christmas lights with Amazon Alexa. Using D-Link smart plugs which cost around £26, an Amazon Echo Dot at £36 I can say “Alexa, turn on Christmas tree lights” which will turn on my tree lights. I can say “Alexa, turn on outside lights” and it will fire up my outside Christmas lights. In the video I also show you can group together smart plugs and lights into one command. So I can say “Alexa, Christmas time” and it will turn on my tree lights, the outside lights and turn on my Philips Hue lights to a set of Christmas colours. I can say “Alexa, Christmas lights off” and it will shut them all down.

If you fancy adding some intelligence to your lights checkout my article on how to have the lights switch on automatically at sunset.

It’s really simple to get started and a great way to add a bit of Christmas spirit to your smart home.
