According to a survey carried out by McGraw Hill Education, almost 80% of students reported that using smart gadgets for studying has boosted their grades. Just over 60% of respondents also said that using these gadgets helped them feel more prepared for class. Whether you’ve upgraded to the shiny new iPhone 7 or are still going strong with your trusty iPhone 4s, here are some of the best free iPhone apps to help students be more productive.

Evernote

Evernote has been one of the most popular note-taking apps for a long time and recent updates to this popular productivity application have made it even more useful for students. With a clean, minimal user interface, it’s easy for students to quickly navigate whilst making notes, creating to-do lists, setting reminders, attaching files and creating agendas. Additionally, students can benefit from the unlimited storage, although free users are capped at a 60MB per month upload limit. The app is free to download from the App Store to your iPhone or iPad.

EasyBib

When you’re writing a research paper, proposal or even an essay, creating the bibliography is often one of the most time-consuming parts. EasyBib is a free iPhone app that allows you to quickly format your list of references, with over 7,000 reference styles to choose from, including the most common formats – APA, MLA, and Harvard. And, the app will even create your references for you when you type in the name of a book or take a picture of its barcode.

Microsoft Office Mobile

Studying for a master of public health degree often requires you to have a good grasp of Microsoft Office. Not only will you be using Microsoft Word to write your assignments, you’ll also need PowerPoint for presentations, and Excel for spreadsheets and planning at the very least. When you download the Microsoft Office app, you’ll have easy access to view, edit and share all of your Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files from your iPad or iPhone.

Whilst working to meet the deadlines for your public health degree online and juggling your social life and extracurricular activities, budgeting might well be the last thing on your mind. Mint is a free app available from the app store that allows you to manage all your accounts from one handy place. You can track your spending, create savings goals, and even find out your credit score and how to improve it.

Sleep Time

Pulling all-nighters may be synonymous with student life, but bad sleeping habits will hurt your grades. Sleep Time is a free app available for iOS which uses sleep science research to analyze the different sleep stages that you go into throughout the night. In the morning, the app will sound an alarm to wake you up during a half-hour window that you set when your sleeping is at its lightest. So, you’ll wake up feeling more energized and relaxed.
