First mooted last year under the guise of ‘Infinity’, DropBox have finally announced the availability of Smart Sync, which looks to be the answer to the prayers of many OneDrive users (myself included) still mourning Microsoft’s arbitrary dropping of placeholders.

For users with cloud storage that exceeds their local storage, Smart Sync shows all files and folders as though they were part of the local file system, simply synchronising files when required without needing to drop into a web browser or desktop client to bring the files down.

Only business users have access at present.  Hopefully consumers will be added in due course.  And maybe, just maybe, this might give Microsoft the nudge it needs to restore this much-missed bit of the Windows cloud ecosystem.
