Microsoft have announced that they are bring full Windows 10 to Qualcomm ARM based chips. This is the full version of Windows 10, not a cut down mobile version which means you would be able to run full Windows 10 Win32 desktop apps as well as UWP apps.

In a video Microsoft have published you can see Windows 10 Enterprise Edition running on the ARM chip with desktop Photoshop in action and Microsoft say without having to make any changes to the app. The ARM chip used in the video is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chip which is currently in production so it’s not a far in the future development.

So does this mean a future Surface Phone will run full Windows 10? Well possibly, it would certainly mean Continuum docks would be much more useful than they are now and a phone / lapdock combination would be an appealing device if it can run all the apps I use on my PC. What is likely we will see power efficient and cellular enabled tablets and laptops later next year.
