With the news that Microsoft are closing down the last of its Nokia purchased phone manufacturing division it is timely that I came across an infographic about the history of the mobile phone.

The graphic traces the development of phones from the big 80’s Motorola bricks through to the Motorola StarTAC of the 90’s and then the rise of Nokia in the 2000s, with the arrival of the Blackberry. 2007 saw the release of the iPhone and suddenly the Windows Mobile devices of the day looked horribly dated. 2009 saw the release of the HTC Dream / G1 my first Android phone and looking back it was incredibly clucky and slow but at the time the 3.2 inch screen seemed amazing. Then at we get to 2010 we see the Lumia 800 Nokia’s first Windows Phone. As we get close to the current generation of smart phones we see the rise of the Samsung Galaxy range and the demise of the Windows Phone. The graphic takes up right up to the Galaxy S7 and LG G5 and a sadly the Lumia 950 and 950 XL doesn’t get a look in, a sign of the demise of Microsoft Lumia brand.
