We finally have the release version of Windows 10 Mobile, build 10586. This build ties in with the desktop release which is also 10586 and will probably be version that eventually ships as an update to Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

There are no major changes in this build since the last release but it does fix the remaining few issues like SD card issues and has faster app switching. There is however one large issue you need to be aware of. If you did a phone reset after installing the last build (10581) then a file system corruption bug means that after completing the 10586 update the phone gets stuck in a boot loop and will not start up. To get around this you either have to use the Windows Device Recover Tool or do a hardware reset using a key combination to get the phone to reset. I had reset my phone on 10581 so I did the hardware key option to get it back up and running.

My experience with the last build has been very good and I am probably going to put this on my Lumia 1520 my daily driver. So far I found the best experience with Windows 10 Mobile is after doing a reset once an update has completed but I don’t really want to do this on my 1520 just yet.

Here are the details from Microsoft:

Here are some things we have fixed:

We have fixed the issue that caused the Start experience to become corrupted (garbled) after upgrading and restoring a backup from a phone that had a different resolution.

You should now be able to set your default save locations via Settings > System > Storage and it will correctly reflect the current storage settings. Your SD card should no longer show up as a garbled name in Storage settings either.

Moving apps to a SD card should no longer cause those apps to crash.

We’ve made improvements to the Messaging + Skype app – through both app updates via the Store and also on the server side.

This should be seeing less resuming/loading text when switching apps.

The physical camera button should be working again if it wasn’t working for you before.

Apps and games should download from the Store more reliably.
