Plex have announced an all new media player for the PC replacing their Home Theater app (which will be still available as an open source project). The new app has the same look at the Xbox One and other versions and uses the open source mpv project. There are versions for Windows, Mac and a Linux based embedded version for the Raspberry Pi and Intel devices. You can use it to turn a PC into a full media center system.

  1. It’s a preview, and as such, is far from feature complete. There’s no Album view for a Music library, or Search capability, for example. And rather than following the UI design of the current Home Theater app, it’s struck out in a new direction, which has caused much unhappiness in some Plex HTPC owners…
