This year at Mobile World Congress Acer announced one of its cheapest Android phone so far the Acer Liquid Z220. This is a real budget phone at around €89 running Android 5.0.

The phone has a textured plastic back and with a 4 inch screen is comfortable in the hand but I did find the screen picks up finger prints really quickly. The screen runs at 480×800 at 233ppi which is fine for a phone in this price range but it doesn’t have the clarity of a high res display. There is a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera, the rear camera has a LED flash and an 89 degree viewing angle. I found the pictures are pretty washed out without a lot of colour and not particularly sharp so overall I would say the camera is disappointing, many of the similar priced Lumia phones have a much better camera.

The processor is a dual-core Qualcomm 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 and you do notice screen lags switching apps from time to time but most of the time it works fine, for the budget the performance is pretty good. Other specs are also on the basic side, 1GB RAM and 8GB Storage but is does have space for a MicroSD card. It runs Android 5.0 without much modification (which is a good thing) and doesn’t come with too much extra software. I found that after installing a couple of apps there was 3GB space available so if you are planning to take a lot of pictures and videos you are going to need an SD card.

Overall I found the Z220 to be a reasonable phone for the price, personally I prefer the budget Lumia phones like the 630 and 535 but this runs Android which many people prefer.

In this video I take a look at the Acer Liquid Z220 and see what it can do:
