Yesterday Microsoft released build 10051 of Windows 10 for phones and initially there were some issues getting the update out to Windows Insiders but my Lumia 630 updated without any issues.

So here is a video of my first impressions of the updated phone OS. As will see in the video it’s all a bit sluggish, apps take some time to load. In fact I thought some apps weren’t opening with the app popping up a good few seconds to after. As this is a preview I can live with it on a test phone but on my main phone it would drive me mad, but I am sure it will be sorted in later builds.

In this build is the new Project Spartan Browser, which seems to work really well. It seems fast and I like the look of the UI, I still would prefer the address bar to be at the bottom of the screen rather than the top but it works well on the small screen of the 630. Reading mode is a good feature, it filters the page down to a clear readable version as you will see in the video it would be good for reading on the go. There is a new People app with a new dark look, a new phone app and the new universal maps app.

In this video I take a walkthrough of the changes including Spartan, maps, people, messaging and phone apps.
