Microsoft release lock screen fix for Window 10 (KB3050653), doesn’t fix the tablet sign-in issue

Yesterday Microsoft released a patch for Windows 10 that fixes a lock screen bug that was preventing users from signing into Windows. KB3050653 fixes a bug where the user name and password box are not on the sign-in screen which is a bit of an issue when you trying to login to Windows.

What the update doesn’t fix is an issue I am seeing on my Encore 8 tablet. Sometimes when try swipe up to unlock the tablet it says “Press and hold the Windows button, then press the power button to sign in”. Which is a little convoluted on a tablet and what is worse is that it only works about 50% of the time. At first I thought it was some kind of new feature but fortunately it isn’t and it is actually a bug as confirmed by Microsoft’s Gabe Aul. Hopfully this will be fixed by a patch on in the next release.

The update is available via Windows Update.
