I recently moved my AV Receiver into a cabinet hiding away the masses of wires trailing all over the place. It all looks great but the remote control no longer works and who wants to get up and open the cabinet just to change the volume? The solution I plumped for is a Nikkai Remote Infrared Repeater from Maplin which enables remote controls to work when you have no line of site with the device.

It consist of three parts: There is a IR receiver which you place in site of the remote (I put it on top of my cabinet) which is really small and has a sticky pad on it so you can place it wherever you want. The 2nd part is the main unit which takes power from the supplied power supply and is about the size of a PC mouse, you can place this out of site as the IR receiver has 60cm cable (or about that). The main unit also connects to the IR transmitters which you place near your AV component. It has three transmitters on the one cable and the little bugs have a sticky pad on them what you stick on to the IR sensor of the component, so you can control three devices with the one repeater. It works just as advertised and I can now control my AV Receiver in the cabinet with its remote control so no more getting up and opening up the cabinet.

It’s very simple and works very well, the cable for the IR blasters is a good length but the IR sensor cable could be longer. I am planning to move my Sky+ box into the cabinet and then I will stick one of the blasters onto the Sky box.

At £30 it is expensive for what it does but it works well and is well made. I bought it from Maplin.co.uk

Can you please explain the above clearly. I am a complete novice, and have little or no tech savvy
