Sonos PLAY:1

In the past when you setup a Sonos system you needed to add a Sonos Bridge to your network before the Sonos speakers could be used. Starting today Sonos have removed the need to have a Bridge or wired connection on your network as it will now use your existing wifi. To enable it you need the new version of the Sonos software (version 5.1) and if you have a poor wifi signal you may still need a bridge. Sonos 3.1 and 5.1 home theatre setups will still require a wired connection.

Sonos are also launching a new product called the Sonos Boost priced at $99 later this year which is designed to help with poor quality home wifi environments so if you are having wifi issues then that may be a product worth looking at.

Today, getting started with Sonos becomes even easier as we launch Sonos 5.1, a major software update that allows you to set up and run Sonos on your existing WiFi network. From now on, a wired connection to your router – or a SONOS BRIDGE – is no longer required.
