The My Movies team have announced a pre-release of the next version of My Movies. My Movies 5 for Windows replaces My Movies Collection Manager, My Movies for Windows Media Center and My Movies Home and Essentials Server Solution. When you install My Movies you can selected to install either the Windows version or the server version.

The new My Movies 5 for Windows brings the functionality of the server version to the Windows version so as well as the usual My Movies features you get automated disc copying, video conversions and connectivity with the mobile apps. It some ways it’s sad to see the My Movies for Windows Media Center name disappearing as that is where My Movies began but it’s only a name change for now.

My Movies for Windows program requires Windows 7 Server Pack 1 or Windows 8/8.1 so that means it no longer supports Windows XP or Vista. If you want to give it a try you will been to have 2500 or more points, the My Movies team have done that to keep the number of testers down to a minimal limit for now.
