Xbox Video on Windows Phone

Right since the launch of Windows Phone the music and video apps have been built into the OS and they have their own dedicated hub so it’s surprising to see Microsoft launch two new media apps for the platform. Xbox Music and Xbox Video are new apps for Windows Phone 8 that bring the Xbox Music and Video store content to the phone. Xbox Video enables you to browse, rent or buy movies and TV shows on the phone and then watch them on your phone, a Windows device, Xbox or via XboxVideo.com. Xbox Music enables streaming and downloading of music to the phone if you have an Xbox Music Pass subscription. Playlists sync with other Windows devices and you can download tracks for offline playback.

I guess Microsoft have split out the functionally to separate apps so they can push out updates faster and not have to wait for platform OS updates and the slow phone operator update process.

You can find the Xbox Music app here in the Windows Store and the Xbox Video app here.
