We are starting to see more devices shipping with USB 3.0 ports on them, including the new Surface 2. The 5gb per second transfer speed is way quicker than USB 2.0 which is what you need when moving around large video files around. Most PCs only ship with one USB 3.0 port so a USB hub can comes in very handy if you have multiple devices.
Inateck’s USB 3 hub is a powered 4 port USB hub that is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 and 2.0 spec devices. As it’s a powered hub it will work with power hungry devices, during my testing I found it would work without power for low current drawing devices but for USB 3.0 hard drives you will need to plug the supplied power supply. The other benefit of using a USB 3.0 hub is even if you have only USB 2.0 devices you can have 4 USB 2.0 devices running at the maximum transfer rate without maxing out the bandwidth of the hub. I found I was getting about double the speed of a high speed USB 2 hub and 100 times faster than my pocket USB hub I was using.
