My second press conference is Netgear who this year are focusing on the Smart Home. They have announced new network products (see the press release for the details) and Media Streamers. The one that seemed most interesting is the NeoTV Prime which runs Google TV. The GTV100 has NeoTV Streaming Player and a Slingbox client as well as Google TV apps.
Patrick Lo CEO and founder of Netgear after a brief recap of the history of Netgear talked about the start of the Smart Home, which he said Netgear’s mission was to connect every powered device in the home connected to the internet. He went on to say the Smart Home market is going to be worth $3.6B by 2015 and Netgear want to bring connected devices to the average consumer not just the high end home installs and the devices can be connected by the average consumer.
They announced new VueZone wire free cameras, they use Wi-Fi and use long life batteries. You can then view the video on a smartphone app, having no cables and its small size means they should be easy to install. Images and video are stored in the cloud and they even have a night video camera.
Netgear also announced the latest Push2TV which supports 1080p video, Dolby 5.1 and can be powered by USB from the TV. Push2TV works with Miracast so you can send Smarthphone displays to the TV, it works with Android 4.2 devices like the Nexus 4.
They announced a dual band Range Extender with Airplay support, USB drive and a 3.5mm audio plug so you can use it as a DLNA client.
Also updated is the Genie EZ connect app which includes QR codes for easy connections of mobile devices.
The media devices announced where the NeoTV MAX which is designed to make TVs that don’t have smart features in to Smart TVs with apps like NetFlix,YouTube and Sling Player and the NeoTV PRIME which is a Google TV powered device which Netgear said was “Google TV done right” (to some laughter). There is full access to Google Play and the full Google Chrome browser. It also has a full DLNA client in the device.
So some interesting products from Netgear, it will be interesting to see how the Google TV performs.
