New Year means parties, hangovers, resolutions but for me it means preparation for the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. I have been going to CES since 2006 and once again I will be traveling to Las Vegas for the biggest trade show in the US.

This year Microsoft won’t be at the show which is a shame as they seem to have more of a consumer focus than they have had for some time with Windows 8, Surface and Windows Phone 8 but CES is such a big show that Microsoft may not be missed.

The big guys like Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and LG will be there showing their vast array of products. Samsung in particularly will be interesting as I am a big fan of their products and last year they had a massive and very busy booth.

As with the last few years they will be lots of iPad accessories but I expect to see more Android accessories this time. I must have over 100 email invites from exhibiters wanting to show off their latest iPad case or Android chargers and the accessories market seems to grow and grow.

This time there should also be lots of Windows 8 devices on show including a lot different form factors, Samsung, Lenovo, Sony and others will be showing off tablets, convertibles and Ultrabooks.

The biggest display will be the TVs again, I expect lots of ultra-thin slim bevel, OLED TVs all with smart TV features, there will be a lot talk about 4k resolution. Samsung are promising new Smart Hub features and LG will be showing off new Google TV devices. There has been a lot of promise about Google TV but not a lot to show for it yet so it will be interesting to see if Google can grow the market of the system.

One of the best things about CES is just wandering the halls and seeing what you stumble over, this is often some great quirky stuff on show.

So January 7th to 11th I will in Las Vegas, you can follow me on Twitter , Google+ and Facebook for the up to date info and subscribe to our RSS feed to keep up with the news. We should have lots of posts, videos and interviews for the podcast and hopefully I will be able to catch up with some old friends.

Once again our coverage of CES is supported by DVBLogic and their DVBLink range of products, you can find out more at DVBLogic.com
