I loved the concept of Live Mesh when it was launched back in 2008, it wasn’t just syncing files but it was a framework for syncing data between application and devices. It also had some great features like Remote Desktop and a web based desktop. Since then it’s been rebranded as Windows Live Mesh and been phased out in favour of SkyDrive which while is a nice service doesn’t have the features set.
Microsoft have announced that Windows Live Mesh will be shutdown February 13th 2013 and are advising users to make the switch to SkyDrive. It’s sad to see that the Mesh never released its potential but I suspect there are not that many people using it now.
As a result, we’re announcing today that Windows Live Mesh will be officially retired on February 13, 2013, and we’re starting to communicate with the remaining Mesh users and provide a set of instructions on how to keep their files in sync and alternative options for some of the features they’re still using.
