My wife has been using a HP Pavilion dv6000 for a couple of years now and it’s come to the end of it’s useful life so she wanted a new PC. We looked around a lots of different Notebooks including Apple, HP, Acer and Samsung and the one she picked has the Samsung Series 3 (305V5A). It has a 15.6 inch LED backlight screen, 6GB RAM, 750GB drive, AMD A6-3410MX processor and comes with 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

The case is white plastic with a blue lid which looks pretty stylish and feels solid, not as solid as some of the new HP models but has a nice feel and my wife really liked the look of the Notebook. The keyboard is a nice feel with a light travel, not unlike my Macbook Air keyboard plus it has a number pad (great for Excel users). The touchpad supports multi-touch, you can use it to zoom in and out of pictures and do two finger scrolling.

The screen runs at 1366 x 768 and is nice and bright without being over reflective. The CPU is a AMD Quad Core A6 3410 APU and has an integrated AMD Radeon HD 6480G GPU. While the CPU is not blazing fast it’s respectable for the price and it feels snappy. There are plenty of ports: HDMI, VGA, 3 USB ports, network port, card reader and there is a 1.3 Mega pixel web cam and DVD drive.

The initial setup wanted to partition the 705GB drive into two drives, which I find is not really necessary especially as I use Windows Home Server to backup my devices so no need to setup recovery partitions. There is a built in boot optimisation utility that is supposed to improve startup performance.

It comes with lots of software pre-installed, some good and some not so good. Skype, Windows Live suite, Cyberlink Media Suite, Samsung tools and PC Worlds KNOWHOW app store are all installed as well as Kaspersky Internet Security which I removed and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

Priced around £499 you get good value for money and a stylish notebook, my wife is happy with it where she will be using it to update her website roseleisure.com
