Amulet makers of the voice control remote controls for Media Center have been working on Kinect software for some time and now they have released a Kinect music app. With the app you can use the Kinect to control music playback, select tracks, rate songs and control the volume. As you can see from the video it works really well and doesn’t need any voice training. It’s a free download from Amulet.com and they are considering developing a paid version with similar features to their remote control if there is enough demand.

Features:

  • Access your Windows Media Center music directly using simple voice commands
  • Use gestures to turn on and off speech recognition from the comfort of your couch
  • See visual feedback for both audio and gesture commands within Media Center
  • Use voice to navigate around other sections of Media Center
  • Add additional custom commands to perform other actions (advanced users only)

  1. Looks good! They haven’t said in their FAQ however what you do if you already have the full Amulet software installed for use with their voice remote control and you want to also try Amulet for Kinect?

  2. Hi,

We do mention in the download instructions that you need to uninstall any existing Amulet Voice Remote software first before installing Amulet Voice Kinect. It can be re-installed afterwards with no penalty (all settings and index files are preserved), but right now, you can’t use both Kinect and the Amulet Remote at the same time.

If we move to a commercial release, we intend to support both Kinect and the remote simultaneously in a single software package (possibly even multiple units of each simultaneously).
