Tranquil have been talking about their new aluminium monocoque PC design for a few weeks and now their first PC based on the design is on sale. The monocoque system called the iOne is only going to be available for a short time and would make a great Media Center system. It has a really nice look, has no vents and is fan less, on Tranquil’s site you can pick the components and spec up your device.

The base price is £279.00 and I spec’d a system with 4GB of RAM, 80GB SSD drive and Windows 7 Home Premium and it came out at £558.90. I am planning a visit to Tranquil’s Manchester office soon so I will be taking at look at one of these little boxes.

UPDATE: One drawback could be the lack of HDMI port, it only has a VGA port

The seamless, single piece chassis, with integral CPU / HDD cooling systems is absolutely unique. Every chassis is cut from a single billet of aerospace grade aluminium, to amazing tolerances (we are talking single microns here).

Initially only destined for HiRel (Industrial / Transportation / Communications – High Reliability applications) a limited number of our monocoque PC systems are being released for general sale.
The iOne series may only be available for a short time, and if you are interested in the technology, we urge you to consider your order.

This is no ordinary PC, in fact other than a MB / CPU / RAM and HDD, the unit does not resemble a PC at all. Many have said this is like a Mini Mac, but running standard PC hardware / software.
No seams, no nasty edges, no vents, no fans, zero (or near zero noise) – just a monolithic block of technology.

The iOne, has sharp lines, with a thick unique surface finish to protect it from all manner of elements, and also to ensure it cools down efficiently. It also feels very smooth to the touch.

Details:

The newest edition to the tranquil range is here, the tranquil iOne, it is milled out of a solid block of raw aluminium onsite in our new machine shop before being anodised locally to the highest standard. It does not only offer great looks but due to its manufacturing process it’s the most solid piece of kit we have had the pleasure of manufacturing, our precision milling machine mills within a tolerance of 0.001mm giving superb CPU cooling contact. The chassis is also completely sealed protecting the motherboard, memory and hard disks to give overall better protection and longevity of the product.

The iOne is fitted with Intel’s D525MW motherboard consuming a mere 15w but offering a high performance from its dual core 1.66ghz processor, supporting up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and a maximum of 1TB internal storage the iOne is an ideal computer for the home user and excels in industry due to its solid design, with the option to have a 2nd LAN port iOne would also be ideal as a firewall.

The iOne is also the smallest computer we have ever designed measuring in at 186mm (w) x 199mm (d) x 55mm (h) incl feet, and weighing approximately 4KG, not light but it was a 8kg solid block of aluminium prior to being machined and has a real feel of quality when held.

This is the first of our new range of chassis to be designed, manufactured and assembled at our factory in Manchester by our dedicated team, so to promote this we are offering a pre order discount of £60 if ordered before the 23rd of October, and orders placed before this date will be given priority to be delivered before the end of October, just use the code “IONE10” when checking out to receive this discount.
